Hypermedia Process Modelling
نویسنده
چکیده
As evidenced by the recent explosion of interest in the World Wide Web, the scope and complexity of hypermedia application are growing at a rapid rate. Despite this, the development of hypermedia applications is still largely ad hoc and poorly managed, often resulting in applications which are low quality and excessively expensive to develop and especially maintain. Although various hypermedia design models (such as HDM) and methods (such as RMM) have been developed, these have yet to be placed in the context of the overall development process, or to be widely adopted for commercial development. In this paper we consider the role of process modelling in improving this siutation. We look at problems with existing hypermedia development processes and the role which design tools, methods and models can play. We then go on to consider how descriptive process modelling can be used to model hypermedia development processes and subsequently identify potential flaws within these processes. This will in turn provide the mechanisms necessary for measuring and improving hypermedia development. The potential results are significantly more manageable, consistent and cost-effective development, and higher quality applications.

User Modelling for Information Retrieval from Multidatabases
The design options in resolving heterogeneous data source access from a single query, and for a supporting user modelling component are discussed. The MIPS system is used as an example to consider the role of user modelling in automatically generating hypermedia presentations of the information retrieved from such distributed data sources whose semantics are unknown to its users. A user modelli...
متن کاملAdaptive Performance Support for Fault Diagnosis
This paper introduces a strategy, a user model, and a methodology for utilising adaptive hypermedia in performance support domain and specifically for fault diagnosis. This utilisation is implemented by employing task-specific and user-centred hypermedia which allows supporting content to be synchronized with the diagnostic expert system inference process. A stereotype user model is suggested i...
متن کاملTowards a Methodology for Adaptive Hypermedia Systems Development
Adaptive hypermedia (AH) systems that adapt themselves to the user’s characteristics generally include for this purpose a user model component. The designer has to specify different solutions for content, navigation and presentation, and define adaptation criteria. To support the development of AH applications an engineering approach is required that considers user modelling and adaptive aspect...
متن کاملHypermedia Modelling Using UML
This paper discusses an approach to hypermedia modelling using the Unified Modelling Language (UML). We describe hypermedia models based on four established views of hypermedia system: application domain model, navigation model, presentation model and user model. The approach emphasises UML state diagrams as capable technique for navigation modelling. We relate our approach to other types of mo...
متن کاملA Model-Driven Approach to Include Adaptive Navigational Techniques in Web Applications
Adaptivity is an increasingly demanded characteristic of Web applications. However, adaptive techniques usually implemented in Adaptive Hypermedia Systems have been hardly considered by current Model-Driven Web Development Methods. This work presents an approach to describe adaptive navigation techniques at early stages of the Web development process. Using the primitives of the OOWS Navigation...
